Janille Benjamin is a 22 year old, first year Master’s student at Columbia University studying Counseling Psychology. The first time she was introduced to step was at New Covenant Christian Church, now Jubilee Christian Church, when she saw Alpha and Omega step squad perform at a youth rally. Janille desperately wanted the join the team and in 1998 she did. Since then, Janille’s passion for the art form of step has only grown as she has been more exposed to it.

In 1999 Janille had the opportunity to step in the gospel musical Moses and as a part of Alpha Omega, she stepped at various other events including Filenes Black History Month celebration and many local churches and other community events. While stepping with Alpha and Omega Janille also had the opportunity to open up a concert for the world renowned gospel hip-hop group, The Cross Movement.

In 2002 Alpha and Omega was rebirthed as A Chosen Few Step Ministry (ACF) under Janille’s leadership. Since A Chosen Few came into existence they have hosted a citywide step show, stepped at various churches and community events including Soulfest 2004. ACF has also placed first in two citywide talent shows. In 2003 A Chosen Few ministered alongside The Cross Movement when they choreographed a step to a track the groups new c.d. In 2005, alongside Khalid Hill (tap dancer) and Disciple (rap artist), A Chosen Few held a full-length concert in North Carolina.

Currently Janille still serves as the leader of A Chosen Few as they are making an effort to use step as a vehicle to minister the Gospel to the world. Along with other members of A Chosen Few Janille is working to promote the professionalism of step and raise the standard of excellence and esteem within the step culture. Janille is also the step coordinator/teacher for the Harlem Children’s Zone Community Center. Janille looks forward to seeing step more wide spread and executed with excellence.
