Step name: “VAYDA” short for The innoVAYDA

Lekisha Adrienne Benjamin was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 9th, 1985. She started stepping in 1999 with a step team called Alpha and Omega. Alpha and Omega is located in Boston Massachusetts and was a part of New Covenant Christian Church now known as Jubilee Christian Church. While Lekisha was a part of Alpha and Omega they stepped at many events including Filenes black history Month celebration, The Mayor’s Youth Summit in Boston, Hofstra University in New York for a Jewish and Black Seder and many other performances at local churches and community events.

In 2001 with the help of Sonya Green, Lekisha started a step class at the Blue Hill Boys and Girls Club for children ages 6-14. She taught them self choreographed steps in preparation for a talent showcase.

In 2002 Lekisha started to teach a step elective class at her high school, City On a Hill Charter school which the year after became an official step team called Unique Storm. In Unique Storm’s first official year of existence Lekisha Benjamin led them to win third place in the greater Boston Step Association’s junior division competition.

In addition in 2003 when graduating from high school Lekisha Benjamin received a scholarship from Harriet Lewis the CEO of a non profit organization for having such a great passion for the art form of step. 2003 was a very busy year for Lekisha as Alpha and Omega went through an extreme downsizing and changed their name to Alpha and Omega’s A Chosen Few. This name basically meant that many people were called to the art form, but few were chosen to be the best. That summer A Chosen Few was asked to go on tour with a Gospel Rap group called The Cross Movement. They stepped to a track that the group had on their Album and performed it live with them at a Gospel festival in Connecticut. At the end of the summer Lekisha then started her freshman year at Bentley College and aided in the start up process of the Bentley Step squad. She served on the board for that year and the year following as the Step Coordinator.

In 2004 Bentley Step Squad stepped in their first two competitions and won second place in both of them. Currently Lekisha is a board member of A Chosen Few Step Ministry and is also a team member.
